BDCOM GP1705-2G Dual Band WiFi XPON ONU: Overview
The BDCOM GP1705-2G is a genuine BDCOM dual-band Wi-Fi XPON ONU with a GPON/EPON fiber port, one Gigabit (GE) and one Fast Ethernet (FE) LAN port and four antennas, for ISPs and FTTH customers who want faster wireless internet from a single box. It is popular with ISPs and cable-internet operators connecting homes and offices to their fiber network, and with customers replacing a faulty ONU.
Dual-band Wi-Fi means it broadcasts on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Phones and laptops near the ONU can use the faster 5 GHz band, while devices in far rooms use 2.4 GHz, which travels better through walls.
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| PON port | 1x XPON (GPON/EPON) |
| LAN ports | 1x GE + 1x FE |
| Wi-Fi | Dual-band |
| Antennas | 4 antennas |
Key Features
- Dual-band Wi-Fi – 5 GHz for speed close by and 2.4 GHz for range.
- Four antennas – better wireless coverage than a single-antenna ONU.
- 1x GE + 1x FE LAN – one Gigabit wired port plus one 100Mbps port.
- XPON (GPON/EPON) – works on either network type.
- Genuine BDCOM product.
Best For
- Homes on higher-speed packages where 5 GHz Wi-Fi makes a real difference.
- Freelancers and families streaming, gaming and joining video calls at the same time.
- Small offices and shops that want one device for fiber and Wi-Fi.
Setup and Usage Tips
- Place the ONU centrally and in the open, not inside a cabinet, so the four antennas cover more of the home.
- Connect your desktop or smart TV to the GE port for the best wired speed.
- Ask your ISP to register the ONU on their OLT and set your Wi-Fi name and password.
- Keep the ONU on a mini UPS so Wi-Fi survives load-shedding; check the adapter's voltage first.
FAQs about the BDCOM GP1705-2G
Q: How is it different from the GP1704-2F-E?
A: Both have XPON and 1x GE + 1x FE ports. The GP1705-2G adds dual-band Wi-Fi with four antennas, while the GP1704-2F-E has 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only.
Q: Should my phone use 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz?
A: Use 5 GHz when you are near the ONU for higher speed, and 2.4 GHz in far rooms for a steadier signal.
Q: Will it work with my ISP?
A: It supports GPON and EPON. Your ISP must support and register it on their OLT.
