More families and shop owners in Bangladesh are installing CCTV cameras for security and peace of mind. The first question is always the same: "How much will it cost?" The honest answer is that it depends on the number of cameras, the camera type, the recorder, the hard disk and the installation work.
This guide explains each part of a CCTV system and gives you current component price ranges so you can plan a budget before you call an installer.
The Parts of a CCTV System
- Cameras: HD (analog) or IP cameras, indoor or outdoor.
- Recorder: A DVR for HD cameras or an NVR for IP cameras.
- Hard disk: Stores the recordings. Surveillance-grade drives are made for 24/7 recording.
- Cables and connectors: Coaxial cable with power for HD cameras, or network (LAN) cable for IP cameras.
- Power: A power supply for the cameras, PoE switch for IP cameras where needed, and ideally a UPS.
- Monitor (optional): To view cameras live on site. Most people also view on their mobile phone.
- Installation labour: Mounting, cabling, configuration and mobile app setup.
HD Camera vs IP Camera
HD (Analog) Cameras with DVR
HD cameras send video over coaxial cable to a DVR. They are the most budget-friendly choice and are very common in homes and small shops. A 2MP HD camera is enough for most indoor spaces.
IP Cameras with NVR
IP cameras send digital video over network cable to an NVR. They usually offer better image detail, more features and easier expansion, and many can be powered over the same cable using PoE. They cost more per camera.
| Feature | HD Camera + DVR | IP Camera + NVR |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Lower | Higher |
| Cable | Coaxial + power | LAN cable (PoE possible) |
| Image quality | Good for most homes/shops | Usually sharper, more features |
| Best for | Budget home and small shop setups | Offices, larger shops, future expansion |

How to Plan a 2, 4 or 8 Camera Setup
2 Cameras (Small Flat or Small Shop)
Usually one camera at the main door and one covering the inside or the cash counter. A 4-channel DVR is a smart choice even for 2 cameras, because you can add more later without replacing the recorder.
4 Cameras (Home or Medium Shop)
Typical positions: main gate, entrance, parking or stairs, and the main room or counter. A 4-channel DVR or NVR fits exactly. If you might add cameras later, consider 8 channels.
8 Cameras (Larger House, Office or Warehouse)
Covers multiple floors, entrances and storage areas. An 8-channel DVR, or an NVR with enough channels for IP cameras, plus a larger hard disk is recommended.
How Much Hard Disk Do You Need?
Recording time depends on the number of cameras, resolution, compression, frame rate and whether you record continuously or on motion. As a rule:
- More cameras or higher resolution means the disk fills faster.
- Motion-only recording keeps footage for longer.
- When the disk is full, most recorders overwrite the oldest footage automatically.
Use a surveillance-grade hard disk, since it is designed for constant writing. Your installer can set the recording mode to match how many days of footage you want to keep.
Do Not Forget Power Backup
During load-shedding, cameras and the recorder will stop unless they have backup power. A UPS keeps the DVR/NVR, cameras and router running for a while. Browse UPS and power products, and make sure your internet router is also backed up if you want to watch cameras on your phone during outages. A good router helps with smooth remote viewing.

FAQs
Q: Is 2MP enough for a home CCTV camera?
A: For most homes and small shops, yes. 2MP (1080p) gives clear footage of people at doors and counters. Higher resolution helps for wide areas.
Q: Can I watch my CCTV on my mobile?
A: Yes. Most modern DVRs and NVRs support mobile viewing when connected to the internet through your router.
Q: Should I choose HD or IP cameras?
A: HD cameras are the budget choice for homes and small shops. IP cameras cost more but usually give better detail and easier expansion, which suits offices and larger shops.
Q: Do you install CCTV outside Dhaka?
A: Yes, we install in Dhaka and Noakhali. For other areas, contact us to discuss options; products can be delivered anywhere in Bangladesh.
