Mini UPS for Router and ONU in Bangladesh: Backup, Price & Buying Tips

Load-shedding hits, the lights go out, and so does your WiFi — right in the middle of an online class, a client call or a Fiverr delivery. A mini UPS for router and ONU is the simplest fix. It is a small battery box that keeps your router and fibre ONU running on DC power when the electricity goes. This guide explains how mini DC UPS units differ from normal offline UPS, how to match 9V and 12V outputs, how to estimate backup hours honestly, and what to check before you pay. If you need a UPS for a desktop PC as well, read our separate guide Which UPS Do I Need for My PC or Router? — this post focuses only on the small router setup.

What Is a Mini UPS for Router and ONU?

A mini DC UPS contains rechargeable lithium cells (often 18650 type), a charging circuit and DC outputs. You plug it into the wall, then connect your router and ONU to its outputs instead of their own adapters. While power is on, it charges and passes power through. When power goes, the battery takes over, usually fast enough that the router does not restart.

Typical outputs you will see on these units:

  • 12V DC — the most common input for routers and fibre ONUs.
  • 9V DC — used by many small routers.
  • 5V USB — for small devices; some models can also charge a phone.
  • PoE output (some models only) — for devices powered over the network cable. Most home users do not need this.

In short: if you only want internet during power cuts, a mini DC UPS is the right tool. If you also need to save work on a desktop computer, you need an offline UPS — and that is covered in our UPS guide for PC and router.

Step 1: Check Your Router and ONU Voltage

Turn over each power adapter (or look at the label under the device) and note the output line, for example "Output: 12V 1A" or "9V 0.6A". Then check:

  1. Voltage must match exactly. A 9V router needs the 9V port; a 12V ONU needs 12V. Wrong voltage can damage the device.
  2. Current rating of the UPS port must be equal or higher than the adapter's amps (a 12V 2A port can run a 12V 1A device).
  3. Connector size: most routers use a round DC barrel plug, commonly 5.5 x 2.1mm, but check yours. Good mini UPS units include DC cables for each port.
  4. Some ONUs and routers share one adapter type, so you may need two 12V outputs. Count your devices before buying.

Step 2: Estimate Backup Hours Honestly

Advertised backup hours are often based on a very light load. Do your own simple calculation:

  1. Find battery energy in Wh. If the box shows Wh, use it. If it shows mAh, it is usually at 3.7V cell voltage: Wh = mAh × 3.7 ÷ 1000. Example: 10,000 mAh × 3.7 ÷ 1000 = 37 Wh.
  2. Estimate your load in watts. The adapter label gives the maximum: 12V × 1A = 12W. Real use is usually lower than this maximum, so the label gives you a safe, worst-case figure.
  3. Allow for losses. Converting 3.7V cells up to 9V/12V wastes some energy, so use about 80% of the battery Wh.
  4. Backup (hours) ≈ (Wh × 0.8) ÷ total load in watts.
Battery (example)Usable energy (≈80%)Load 8WLoad 12WLoad 20W
20 Wh16 Wh≈ 2 hours≈ 1.3 hours≈ 0.8 hours
37 Wh (10,000 mAh at 3.7V)≈ 30 Wh≈ 3.7 hours≈ 2.5 hours≈ 1.5 hours
60 Wh48 Wh≈ 6 hours≈ 4 hours≈ 2.4 hours

These are calculated examples, not test results. Real backup depends on your devices, how busy the WiFi is, the age of the cells and room temperature. Lithium cells also lose capacity over the years, so backup in the second or third year will be shorter than when new.

One Important Limit: Your ISP's Power

A mini UPS keeps your router and ONU alive. But if your internet provider's switch or equipment in your area also loses power during load-shedding, the internet will still drop. Ask your ISP whether their local box has battery backup. If the WiFi light stays on but there is no internet during power cuts, this is usually the reason — not your UPS.

What to Look for When Buying a Mini UPS

  • Correct outputs for every device (for example 9V + 12V, or two 12V).
  • Battery capacity in Wh, or mAh with the cell voltage clearly stated.
  • Seamless switching, so the router does not restart when power goes.
  • Protection: overcharge, over-discharge and short-circuit protection.
  • Battery level indicator and a power button you can switch off.
  • Cables included for your connectors.
  • Clear warranty from the seller, written on the box or invoice.
  • Ventilation: keep it in an open, cool place, not inside a closed cabinet.

Mini UPS for Router Price in Bangladesh and Our UPS Range

Mini UPS price in Bangladesh mostly depends on battery capacity, the number of outputs, and cell quality. Mini DC units are generally cheaper than even a basic offline UPS. At the moment our online shop lists offline and online UPS models, not mini DC UPS units, so for a mini UPS please call or WhatsApp us and we will tell you what we can supply for your router and ONU. If you need a bigger UPS to run a PC along with the router, these are in stock in our UPS & Power category:

Which Should You Buy?

  • Only WiFi during load-shedding (router + ONU): a mini DC UPS with matching 9V/12V outputs. Pick capacity from the backup table above.
  • Long power cuts in your area: choose a higher Wh mini UPS rather than an offline UPS; it uses the battery far more efficiently for a small load.
  • Desktop PC + router: an offline UPS such as the 650VA or 850VA models above. Read our PC and router UPS guide for sizing.
  • Router itself is old or weak: a UPS will not fix slow WiFi. See our routers, for example the TP-Link Archer C54 AC1200 (Tk 2,150 until 31 Oct 2026, regular Tk 2,290), and the best WiFi router guide.

FAQs

Q: Mini UPS for router and ONU price in Bangladesh koto?
A: It depends on battery capacity and outputs. We do not list mini DC UPS online right now, so call or WhatsApp us for current options and prices.

Q: Mini UPS diye router koto ghonta chole?
A: Use backup ≈ (battery Wh × 0.8) ÷ load in watts. For example, a 37 Wh unit running a 12W router and ONU together gives roughly 2.5 hours.

Q: Can one mini UPS run both router and ONU?
A: Yes, if it has two outputs with the right voltages (for example 12V for the ONU and 9V or 12V for the router) and enough current for both.

Q: Is a mini UPS better than an offline UPS for a router?
A: For a router alone, yes. It gives DC directly, is silent and wastes less power. An offline UPS makes sense only when you also need to run a PC.

Q: Why is there no internet during load-shedding even with a UPS?
A: Your ISP's equipment in your area may also be without power. If your router lights are on but there is no internet, ask your ISP about their backup.
