The Cisco SFP-10G-SR is a 10GBase-SR SFP+ module for network engineers connecting switches, routers and servers at 10 Gbps over multimode fiber. It uses 850 nm optics with a duplex LC connector and reaches up to 300 m.
10GBase-SR is the usual choice for fast links inside a data room or building, such as between a core switch and server racks, or between floors over multimode cabling. It gives 10G speed over short distances without needing single-mode infrastructure.
For campus or town links longer than a few hundred meters, a single-mode LR module is the better fit; for short internal runs, SR is the standard option.
