Fiber Closures Horizontal Type 48 Port: Overview
The Fiber Closure Horizontal Type 48 Port is an outdoor horizontal (inline) joint closure for up to 48 cores, made for ISPs and fiber technicians who splice and protect fiber on outdoor routes. It is the sealed housing that holds splices where two cables are joined, or where a branch cable leaves a main route.
Outdoor joints face rain, heat, dust and insects, so a proper closure is essential. Without one, splices fail quickly and the whole route can go down. The horizontal inline design lets cables enter from both ends, which suits mid-route joints along poles, walls and ducts.
A 48 core capacity gives plenty of room for backbone and feeder joints, including spare space for future branches.
Key Features
- Horizontal (inline) joint closure: cables enter from both ends, ideal for straight-through and branch joints along a route.
- 48 core capacity: handles backbone and feeder cables with room for expansion.
- Outdoor use: designed to protect splices on outdoor routes.
- Organised splicing: keeps splices arranged and protected so later repairs are easier.
Best For
ISP backbone and feeder routes, joints where a cable roll ends, branch points where a smaller cable leaves the main route, and repairs after a cable cut.
Setup and Usage Tips
- Seal every cable entry carefully; most closure failures come from water getting in at the entries.
- Protect each splice with a heat-shrink sleeve and lay it neatly in the splice tray.
- Coil spare fiber loosely in the trays, with no tight bends.
- Leave a service loop of cable at each side so the closure can be brought down for future work.
- Record which core goes where and keep the record with your network map.
- Mount the closure securely on the pole or wall with proper brackets.
