RAM

RAM in Bangladesh

RAM is the memory that lets you keep more browser tabs and programs open without slowing down. This category includes desktop RAM and laptop RAM in DDR4 and DDR5 from Kingston, Corsair, G.Skill, ADATA, Lexar, Netac, Team, TwinMOS and Samsung, for students, freelancers, gamers and office users upgrading a slow machine.

8GB is the minimum today and 16GB is the comfortable choice for freelancing and multitasking. Laptops use small SO-DIMM modules and desktops use full-size DIMMs, so check your device before choosing.

Types of RAM

• Desktop RAM (DIMM): full-size modules for desktop motherboards, in DDR4 and DDR5.
• Laptop RAM (SO-DIMM): short modules for laptops and some mini PCs, in DDR4 and DDR5.
• DDR4 and DDR5: different generations with different notches, so they are not interchangeable; your device supports one type.

How to Choose

• Check the RAM type: confirm whether your laptop or motherboard uses DDR4 or DDR5, and SO-DIMM or DIMM. In Windows, Task Manager > Performance > Memory shows the form factor and slots used.
• Check free slots: some laptops have one slot or soldered memory, which limits how much you can add.
• Choose the right capacity: 8GB for classes and office work, 16GB for freelancing, design tools and many tabs.
• Match the speed: a module faster than your device supports runs at the supported speed, so there is no need to overspend.
• Use pairs where possible: two matching modules in dual channel usually perform better than one.

FAQs

Q: How much RAM do I need?
A: 8GB is the minimum today for study and office work. 16GB is best for freelancing, design software and heavy multitasking.

Q: Will laptop RAM work in a desktop?
A: No. Laptops use small SO-DIMM modules and desktops use full-size DIMMs, so they do not fit each other's slots.

Q: Can I mix my old RAM with a new module?
A: Usually yes if both are the same type, but the pair will run at the slower module's speed. Matching modules give the most stable result.
