Lexar NM620 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD

Lexar NM620 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD: Overview

The Lexar NM620 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD is a genuine Lexar internal drive for laptop and desktop users who want a fast, affordable boot drive on a PCIe Gen3x4 NVMe connection. It uses the standard M.2 2280 size and is rated at up to 3500MB/s read and 2400MB/s write.

It makes a PC or laptop start and open programs much faster than a hard disk. Because it is a Gen3 drive, it is a natural match for the many used business laptops and older desktops whose M.2 slots run at PCIe Gen3, so you get the full rated speed of the drive without paying for Gen4 performance your system cannot use.

Key Features

• PCIe Gen3x4 NVMe interface: several times faster than a SATA drive and ideal for Gen3 M.2 slots.
• Up to 3500MB/s read and 2400MB/s write: quick boot, fast software loading and smooth file copying.
• 512GB capacity: room for Windows, office software, browsers and a good amount of personal files.
• M.2 2280 form factor: the common length used in most laptops and motherboards.
• Genuine Lexar product: a recognised storage brand with a clear model to verify.

Best For

• Upgrading a used business laptop with a Gen3 NVMe M.2 slot.
• Office and student PCs that need fast start-up for daily work and online classes.
• Replacing an old 128GB or 256GB SSD that keeps running out of space.
• Budget desktop builds that need a responsive system drive.

Setup and Usage Tips

• Before buying, check that your laptop or motherboard has a free M.2 slot that supports NVMe. Some older laptops have an M.2 slot that only accepts SATA M.2 drives, and those cannot run an NVMe SSD.
• If your laptop has only a 2.5-inch bay and no M.2 slot, choose a 2.5-inch SATA SSD instead.
• Move your system by cloning the old drive with cloning software, or do a fresh Windows install on the new SSD for the cleanest result. Back up your files to a pen drive or cloud storage first either way.
• Keep at least 10 to 15 percent of the drive free; SSDs stay quicker when they are not completely full.
• Update Windows and your chipset drivers after installing so the system uses the drive properly.

FAQs about the Lexar NM620 512GB

Q: Is a Gen3 SSD still worth it?
A: Yes. Rated at up to 3500MB/s read, the NM620 is far faster than a hard disk or SATA SSD, and in daily office work the difference from a Gen4 drive is small.

Q: Will it work in a PCIe Gen4 slot?
A: Yes. NVMe drives are backward and forward compatible across PCIe generations; it will simply run at its own Gen3 speed.

Q: Is 512GB enough for me?
A: For Windows, office software and normal files it is comfortable. If you store many videos, games or large design projects, consider a 1TB drive.
