This Optical Fiber Visual Fault Locator, model HT-20, is a 20 mW red laser test tool for ISP technicians and fiber installation teams who need to find breaks, tight bends and bad connectors in fiber cables. It uses a 650 nm red laser, has a range of about 20 km and an SC/FC port.
A VFL sends visible red light into the fiber. Wherever the fiber is broken, cracked or bent too sharply, the red light leaks out and glows through the jacket, showing exactly where the fault is. It is also used to identify cores and check continuity before splicing.
A 20 mW model gives stronger light than lower power VFLs, which helps on longer cables and through thicker jackets.
